The Whole30: Week 1

After months of not feeling physically or mentally my best, I decided it was time for a major change in my life. I wasn’t sure what I would change just yet, but I knew it needed to be something drastic and eye opening. I had heard about The Whole30 here & there, but never thought I could do it – it just seemed too hard. And then it dawned on me that it was EXACTLY what I needed. Not only did I need to change my eating habits, but I also felt that I needed to see something difficult all the way through and achieve my goal. So, despite Memorial Day, National Donut Day & Father’s Day coming up, I jumped in feet first to the Whole30 on May 29th.

I need to disclose that I didn’t really decide to do this to lose weight per se, but to be healthier overall, not rely on food & caffeine so much to get me through those long and tiring days, and get my “glow” back. While it hasn’t been “easy,” the Whole30 has already allowed me the opportunity to really look at the things I’ve been eating and how they affect me on a daily basis. I’ve been able to cut my caffeine intake already which is great because I hadn’t been sleeping all that well because of how much I was consuming.

The Whole30 takes A LOT of planning & prepping since virtually all of your meals need to be made at home. Since one of my favorite hobbies is dining out, that’s the biggest challenge for me! I did enjoy one night out thus far at one of my favorite sushi restaurants and just ordered Whole30 compliant menu items and brought my own sauce (yes, I was THAT person). I’m also going to continue ordering my Sun Basket meals since they’re also paleo/Whole30 compliant. Below are some of my favorite recipes from my first week of Whole30!

The Bewitchin Kitchen’s Chicken Curry Meatballs
These meatballs are SO flavorful and not the least bit dry! My husband isn’t participating in my journey so I really have to find recipes that we can both enjoy and don’t taste “too healthy.” This recipe was PERFECT!

Rachael’s Good Eats Cilantro Avocado Sauce
I’m ALL about the sauce when it comes to a meal. Especially with such a clean food program, a good sauce is so important to help get me through. I made a big batch of this sauce and stored it in the fridge. It didn’t last very long because I put it on everything!

@fit_n_clean_mama’s Crockpot Chicken on my Shredded Cabbage Salad:
I recently posted the recipe to this salad (linked to Jayme’s chicken). This recipe got me through almost a full week of lunches and I never got sick of it! It was just so bright and delicious.

I’ve been trying to get on the bandwagon of changing my eating habits, eating “cleaner”, but it’s just so hard! I have to say these recipes look delicious. It’s nice to see that eating healthy can still be tasty and fun. I’m definitely going to have to give this avocado sauce a try, it looks mouthwatering 🙂

You’re making Whole 30 look incredibly easy! Are you planning your meals out weekly or going day by day? Meal planning is not one of my strong points!

Most I do on the weekends but some I do day by day. Sometimes I just don’t want to eat the same thing every day!

I agree with Suzy, trying to keep up with clean eating has been one difficult task for me. Especially with all the temptations around us (National Donut Day) ugh:/ I look forward to more recipe ideas and your progress on this Whole30 adventure. Good Luck
